"She died of a broken heart," said Dona Brady, a local councillor. Two years earlier, a television psychic had Marlboro Red Cigarettes online told her to give up hope: her daughter was dead.

Her mother was struggling to eat or sleep, and chain-smoked, the local reporter noted. Then, seven months after she went missing, there was a lead. Someone used Ms Berry's mobile phone to call her mother. But it could not be traced, and the trail once more went cold.
Amanda's mother died of heart failure, aged 44. "She was never the same" after the television psychic, said a friend at the time. The man was convicted of obstructing justice and sentenced to four and a half years in jail.
On Monday afternoon, Ms Berry broke through a screen door inside the home where she has been captive ever since she vanished from the face of the earth.
